Rules of Entry

The BIG Energy Saving Challenge

  1. The Challenge is open to any organisation or community (“Group”) with a minimum of 20 households participating, subject to paragraph 2 below. There is no maximum limit on the number of households permitted to participate in a Group.
  2. The participating homes shall:
    1. all be based in Northern Ireland, [excluding households containing employees and their families of Power NI Limited , its subsidiaries, holding company and its subsidiaries, as defined in section 1159 of the Companies Act 2006, their agencies or anyone professionally connected with this Challenge]; and
    2. be customers of Power NI.
  3. All participating homes must have permission to enter from the head of the household who must be aged [18] or over.
  4. Only one entry form per Group.
  5. A participating home cannot participate in more than one Group.
  6. To enter visit http://www.powerni.co.uk/saving-energy/energy-saving-challenge/ and fill in and submit the entry form. The application process closes on 31st March 2011, [11.59pm] GMT. Any applications received after this date and time will not be accepted.
  7. Power NI accepts no responsibility for any entries lost, damaged or delayed as a result of network, computer hardware or software failures of any kind.
  8. No applications automatically generated by computer will be accepted. No incomplete or corrupted entries or those not in accordance with these rules of entry will be accepted.
  9. By completing the application, all Groups will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by these rules of entry and all individuals consent to the transfer of their personal data to the Data Controller for the purposes of the administration of this competition and any other purposes to which the Group has consented.
  10. Power NI may vary, alter or terminate the Challenge at any time due to any unforeseen circumstances. Power NI does not assume any responsibility or liability for any incorrect or inaccurate information entered, or for any faulty or failed electronic data transmissions, inaccessibility or unavailability of the website or any combination thereof.
  11. No purchase necessary.

Selection Criteria

  1. Applications shall be assessed based on the answers provided in the application form, taking into account:
    1. experience in organising an energy saving project (or community project);
    2. the action plan for achieving energy saving targets within the Group;
    3. evidence of how the Group will employ Power NI’s products/services and website in its attempt to become more energy efficient;
    4. how the Group intends to utilise the rewards for energy saving measures; and
    5. the extent of intended participation by each household in the Group during the course of the Competition.
  2. The applications will be assessed by a panel of judges whose decision shall be final and binding.
  3. By entering all Groups will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by the attached terms and conditions which shall apply to the successful six Groups.

Terms & Conditions

  1. Subject to paragraph 3, the successful six Groups will be provided with £7,500 worth of energy saving measures.
  2. Subject to paragraph 3, all Groups who participate and save energy over a one year period (to be determined by Power NI) shall be offered a further £7,500 worth of energy efficient goods or renewable technologies. The overall winner will be the Group that saves the most energy over the year, and it will be provided with £20,000 to invest in energy saving in the relevant Group’s local community. For the avoidance of doubt, the overall winner will not receive the second £7,500 in addition to the £20,000.
  3. The rewards, referred to in paragraphs 1 and 2 above, will not be given to an individual or Group. The expenditure will be agreed with Power NI who will arrange payment directly with the supplier of the energy saving measures, unless otherwise agreed.
  4. The rewards, referred to in paragraphs 1 and 2 above, shall be used for events, training and energy saving measures, which must all receive prior approval by Power NI.
  5. Each Group shall:
    1. ensure that 80% of households within the Group complete the [Power NI Home Energy Check];
    2. ensure that at least 20 households participate in the Challenge for a one year period (such period to be determined by Power NI);
    3. appoint a representative who shall be the main point of contact for the Group (the “Representative”).
    4. the Representative or their nominated representative will attend quarterly meetings with their allocated Power NI mentor;
    5. participate in publicity in relation to the Challenge at the request of Power NI; and not instigate any publicity in local media without approval from Power NI;
    6. provide monthly update reports to Power NI in relation to the Challenge.
  6. In the event the Representative leaves the Group or moves house, the Group shall appoint a replacement Representative.
  7. In the event that any permissions, consents or authorisations are required in order to implement any works in relation to the Challenge, including, but not limited to building control and planning permission, the Group shall have sole responsibility for obtaining such permissions, consents or authorisations and Power NI shall have no liability for any failure to obtain such permissions, consents or authorisations.
  8. Power NI shall have no liability for any actions or decisions taken by the Group (or participating households) and shall not be liable for any costs, losses or expenses relating to the Challenge or arising as a result of any energy saving measures installed in participating homes.
  9. All branding and publicity in relation to the Challenge shall be controlled by Power NI.
  10. These terms and conditions shall be governed by the laws of Northern Ireland and the courts of Northern Ireland shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
