COVID-19

What can businesses and farms do to save money at this time?

There are two key ways commercial customers can reduce energy costs at this time:

- Accurate billing
NIE Networks resumed its meter reading activities in July 2020 after the service was temporarily paused due to COVID-19.

If NIEN are unable to obtain a meter read for your premises, we strongly encourage commercial customers to provide meter reads (where they are safe and able to do so within government guidelines) to keep their bills as accurate as possible and only pay for the energy they are currently using. If your business is temporarily closed or operating at reduced hours and you are unable to provide a meter reading, please contact us and we will work with you to reduce your Direct Debit so it is more in line with your current usage.

- Discount options
Business customers can avail of Power NI’s discount schemes. Quarterly-billed customers get 4% off for paying by Direct Debit and an additional 2% discount for switching to paperless billing. Further discount is available to customers on Personal Contracts. Discounts for monthly-billed customers vary.

There are other ways customers can save money through energy efficiency measures, NISEP grants for installing energy saving technology, as well as changing your meters onto a different tariff that may be more suitable to your type of business, and we are happy to discuss these options with customers when their operations return to normal.
