Farm Family Key Skills H&S training

Farm Family Key Skills (FFKS) is part of the farm Business Improvement Scheme which is funded under the Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020. The programme is part of the Knowledge Transfer measure and is part funded by the European Union (EU).

The FFKS aim is to increase the levels of knowledge and skills in agricultural and commercial horticulture businesses with a desire to help Northern Ireland farmers with their business decision making in the key areas of Business Planning, Animal Health, Health and Safety and ICT.

The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) is responsible for the management and delivery of Farm Family Key Skills. This knowledge transfer scheme will provide short, topic based, training courses linked to improving farm practices for farmers, farm family members and workers in the farm business, helping them adapt to the changing needs of the industry.

Who is it for?

  • Farmers and growers
  • Farm family members
  • Farm employees

During March there will be a number of free courses designed to make farmers, farm family members and visitors to farms aware of the Health & Safety risks on a farm and how to prevent accidents. The trainers will also show farmers how to access and complete the Making it Safer online audit for their farm business. It is a very useful tool which farmers have to complete if applying for the capital investment grant.
