Variable speed drive grant
Variable Speed Drives (VSD) are one of the most cost effective energy saving technologies, yet despite this, there still remains considerable scope to install VSDs across a range of commercial applications throughout Northern Ireland.
What is a variable speed drive (VSD)?
A Variable Speed Drive (VSD) is like a ‘dimmer switch’ that automatically reduces the speed of a motor when it is not busy. You may have noticed this effect on escalators which slow down when no one is on them and speed up when in use. A VSD can dramatically reduce the amount of electricity used by motors used for intermittent jobs e.g. pumps, ventilation fans, air compressors, refrigeration etc.
Power NI successfully applied for funding from the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme (NISEP) for a Variable Speed Drives during 2017 -2018 and a grant of a minimum of 20% (and maximum of 35% or £10,000, whichever is less) will be made available towards the cost of each installation.
The grant application form and Terms and Conditions are available below as well as a list of local installers who have successfully applied for funding in the past (please note that these installers are not Power NI approved).
