Power NI’s price cut shakes up the local business energy market

Tuesday, March 22, 2016

Power NI’s recent 10% price cut in their small business and farm tariff rates came as a welcome boost to the local economy.

This follows a 9.2% price cut last year and means that in real terms, Power NI’s tariffs are now back at 2008 levels. Not since Welsh songstress Duffy topped the charts with ‘Mercy’ have we seen Power NI prices as low as these.

Alan Egner, Power NI’s Commercial Sales & Marketing Manager comments: "This price cut will save a typical small business around £200 a year*. It’s mainly down to lower wholesale fuel prices, especially gas, which is the main fuel used in power stations to generate electricity."

So will commercial customers of other suppliers see a similar decrease? "That all depends," continues Alan, "I would expect other suppliers to follow Power NI’s lead and announce price cuts of their own, but whether they match our 10% decrease is another matter.

"For individual customers it will also depend on whether they are in a fixed price or market tracker contract. Fixed price deals mean that customers are protected from any price increases, but the downside is that these customers also miss out when prices start to fall.

"As a result of our price announcement we have naturally seen a big uplift in calls from small businesses interested in switching back to Power NI. With lower prices, great discounts and excellent customer service, there’s never been a better time to come home to Northern Ireland’s leading electricity supplier."

Alan concludes: "Even after 15 years of competition, more NI businesses continue to trust Power NI with their energy needs than any other supplier. We’re still here and still the real home of Business Energy.

It appears that thousands of Power NI customers agree with Duffy herself when she said, "I don't know what you do, but you do it well, I'm under your spell!"
