Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are designed to convert the sun’s energy into electricity to power your home’s lights and appliances. A typical size is 4kWp and is made up of 16 panels.
Electricity is passed through an inverter which powers your home. A monitor will be installed to show you how much electricity you are generating. Any electricity that you generate but don't use can't be stored, but it can be exported back to the grid. We'll pay you for any electricity you export back, on an annual basis.
A solar PV system doesn't need bright sunlight in order to operate and can generate electricity even on cloudy days.
Currently you could save over £300 a year based on how much electricity you generate, the amount you save on your electricity bill and the amount of electricity you export back.
Any electricity that is generated but not used can’t be stored but it can be sold back to the grid and we’ll pay you annually for it. The current export tariff is 4.10p/kWh.
You can maximise your savings by optimising the amount of electricity generated that you use at home. We generally assume that customers use half of what they generate, but there is no limit. The more you use what you generate the less electricity you will have to buy.
Our new Microgen Online system is exclusively for Power NI Microgen customers. With this new service you can submit your generation and export readings online, view your previously submitted export and generation meter readings and keep track of all your payments. Please note - you must have solar PV installed in order to avail of this service. Find out more
