At Power NI we purchase export electricity (electricity you generate but don’t use on the premises) and ROCs (NI Renewable Obligation Certificates) on electricity which is generated from a renewable source.
Receive two payments for your generator by submitting your meter readings to the Power NI Renewables team when requested and we take care of the rest!
Under the NIROC’s scheme (Northern Ireland Renewable Obligation Certificates) you will be paid ROCs for every unit of clean electricity you produce from your renewable generator. That’s right, you will be paid for every unit of clean electricity produced, whether you use it in your home or export it to the grid.
Ofgem is responsible for accrediting renewable energy installations. Once accredited, you can claim Northern Ireland Renewables Obligation Certificates (NIROCs) for 20 years, or until 31 March 2037, whichever is sooner.
The Renewables Obligation (RO) scheme is now closed to new generating capacity from the 31st March 2017.
Any electricity that your system generates but that you don’t use in your home is exported back to the grid. Once you have created an account with Power NI, we will pay you for the amount of energy that you export on an annual basis. In order to receive payment for export you will need an import / export meter installed. This meter is fitted by NIE Networks, not Power NI.
|1 October 2020 - 30 September 2021|
|ROCs- Agent Generator||1 ROC||4.974 p/kWh|
|2 ROCs||9.948 p/kWh|
|3 ROCs||14.922 p/kWh|
|4 ROCs||19.896 p/kWh|
|ROCS - Non Agent Generator||£51.42 per ROC|
The tariff for Renewable Generation is approved by the Utility Regulator (NIAUR) each year so you have complete peace of mind that you are getting a fair price for both ROCs and export.
The export tariff year runs from 1 October- 30 September, with ROC year running from 1 April- 31 March each year. New rates are published towards the end of September with prices subject to fluctuation each year. All payments are made directly into your bank account meaning you won’t see any adjustments in your electricity bill. The payments you receive for your renewable generator are completely separate to your electricity supply bill.
Payment for both ROCs and Export is made on the basis of a meter reading being submitted. The easiest way to ensure your payment is made as promptly as possible is to submit a date stamped picture to your Renewable Generation account.
If Power NI is acting as your agent:
Power NI will contact you at the end of March each year to request a generation meter reading.
If you are managing your own Ofgem ROC account:
If you are managing your own accreditation, you will be required to submit your meter reading to Ofgem. Ofgem will contact you directly to request this reading.
If you have an OFGEM account and submit your readings directly to OFGEM. OFGEM will contact you directly for you to submit your reading.
Once OFGEM have issued your ROCs you can transfer them directly to Power NI to receive payment. If you need help with this please contact us directly.
Note: Payments for export and/or ROCs will not appear on your electricity bill. You will still continue to receive a bill from your supplier for import that you purchase from the grid. Any payments for export and/or ROCs are always made directly into your bank account using the details you provided during registration.
You can also gain additional income from your installation via an export payment. A meter is installed in the property to measure how much energy is not used at home and therefore sent back to the grid. We will contact you at the end of September to request a reading from this meter. The easiest way to ensure your payment is made as promptly as possible is to take a date stamped picture.
