We have donated a £300 community grant to The Thompson Primary School in order to support safe social distancing measures within the classroom
The Ballyclare based Primary School was nominated to receive the community funding by Power NI employee, Krystle Chapman, as part of the company’s staff sponsorship scheme ‘Helping Hands’. This gives employees the opportunity to nominate local groups and organisations to receive funding. Thanks to the donation, the school will purchase new school desks in order to achieve safe social distancing measures within the classroom.
The Thompson Primary School was established in Ballyrobert village in 1928. It has since been a successful, co-educational controlled primary school, situated at the junction of the Mossley and Ballyroberts Roads in the village of Ballyrobert.
Previously, traditional classrooms were not set up to promote social distancing due to class sizes. However, with the rise of COVID-19, classrooms have had to evolve in order to achieve safe social distancing measures.
At Power NI, we recognise how important it is for schools to keep learning environments safe and clean during these challenging times. We are delighted to support The Thompson Primary School by providing adequate funding in order for social distancing measures to be adhered to at all times.
Grateful for the funding, Krystle commented:
‘My two children have attended The Thompson Primary School and it’s a fantastic school were ‘every child matters’. As a small rural school, having the space to socially distance the children was challenging and unfortunately, they did not have enough desks to be able to facilitate this. Working for Power NI, I know one of their core values is to support our local communities. I am delighted that the helping hands scheme in Power NI meant they are able to contribute towards the costs of new desks and as a result our children are able to be taught in a classroom setting.’
