Power NI has today, 29 May, announced that a review of its residential unit price has resulted in a 6.2%* increase, effective 1 July 2026.
This reflects sustained increases in global gas prices, alongside higher network and market charges. This means the average household bill will increase by approximately £5 per month.
The tariff change has been approved by the Utility Regulator and applies to residential customers only.
Power NI is the only price-controlled electricity supplier in Northern Ireland, providing customers with the assurance that tariffs are only adjusted through a regulatory formula with all costs scrutinised by the Utility Regulator.
William Steele, Director of Power NI Customer Solutions, said:
“This tariff adjustment is not a decision we’ve taken lightly. We have worked hard to hold prices for as long as possible, but sustained increases in global gas costs, along with higher network and market related charges, means unfortunately this increase is unavoidable.”
“We know this is unwelcome, however, we’ve delayed the change as long as we could, while keeping our tariffs competitive locally and below the average in GB and the Republic of Ireland.”
Customers can help reduce the impact of this tariff increase by ensuring they are on the most suitable payment plan. This includes choosing options like paying by Direct Debit and registering for online billing which include extra discount.
William Steele continues:
“Supporting our customers is a priority. We’re working with our charity partners and local organisations to provide help where it’s needed most, and we offer a range of support, from tariff advice to energy-saving tips and account assistance. If you’re worried about your bills, please contact us – we’re here to help.”
Power NI also helps customers to save money through a range of discounted payment schemes and services. Bill paying customers can save up to £60 a year through online billing and monthly Direct Debit. Pay-as-you-go Keypad customers get uncapped discounts, as well as free electricity when topping up £50 or more using the free Power NI app or via the website. Power NI customers can top-up from the comfort of their own home, with our free app, online or by calling our automated 24/7 payment line on 08000 285 455. *6.2% increase is applicable to Power NI Home Energy customers; other preserved tariffs may vary. On average, customers will pay £5 more per month from 1 July 2026. This is calculated using the Power NI standard Home Energy rate and an average household usage of 3,200 units (kWh) per year.
