We are delighted to congratulate Irish rugby international and brand ambassador, Hugo Keenan, on winning the 6 Nations Grand Slam last month.
Not only was Hugo an exemplary member of the Ireland team, he was also nominated the ‘Player of the Tournamen’t award. Alongside fellow rugby international, Stacey Flood, Hugo represents the values of Energia Group and we are proud to have them as ambassadors.
Hugo is the embodiment of persistence, having been on the ‘D’ team during his time in the rugby stronghold of Blackrock College, Dublin. Through practice and determination, he worked his way up to the Senior ‘A’ team at the school, winning the Leinster Schools Senior Cup during his time there.
Keenan stated:
I was a bit of a slow burner; I took a while to get going. I was quite small, but I was always determined to get on the next level, there was always little stepping stones; I took the short-term view so hopefully I can inspire the next generation and to keep at it.
In 2017, Hugo was contracted by the Ireland 7’s team, plying his trade full-time while touring the world and gaining valuable experience that would prove to stand to him as his career progressed.
Since his Ireland senior team debut in 2020, he has enjoyed a steep accent to international acclaim in the rugby world. Hugo’s security in the tackle and under the high ball at full-back have made him one of the first names on the team-sheet – he has now started 30 or Ireland’s last 32 games, scoring 9 tries in the process.
We wish Hugo the best of luck for the remainder of the season and leading into the Rugby World Cup in France this September.
