Bills & payments FAQs
Due to price movement in the global energy market, we are pleased to announce that Power NI's non-domestic standard tariff rates will decrease from 1 October 2024. From this date, we will reduce the non-domestic tariff rates and the EPA will be reset to zero pence* per unit.
The Utility Regulator has also approved an increase in the network standing charges, and this applies to all suppliers here. As a result standing charges will increase from the 1 October 2024.
For those customers in a Fixed Price Contract, fixed 'energy only' rates agreed at the start of contracts will not change for the duration of the contracts, however the passthrough elements of contracts will increase.
*subject to change based on changes in the wholsale energy market
Many Power NI Business and Farm customers are on market-tracker products and contracts, meaning any increases or decreases in wholesale electricity prices are passed on through the Energy Price Adjustment (EPA) as a debit or credit on their bills. From 1 October 2024, Power NI will be resetting the standard tariff rates to a lower price and resetting EPA back to 0p per unit, however if wholesale change, this will be passed on through the EPA. There will be some increases in standing charges as per the Utility Regulator's approval. Any customers in a Fixed Price Contract will continue to pay the energy price agreed at the start of their contract, with an increase in standing charges and market charges only.
There are two key ways commercial customers can reduce energy bills:
Business customers can avail of Power NI’s discount schemes. Quarterly-billed customers get 4% off for paying by Direct Debit and an additional 2% discount for switching to online billing. Further discount is available to customers on Personal Contracts. Discounts for monthly-billed customers vary. We encourage customers to contact us and we can do an Account Health Check to see if there are any other discounts or offers available to them.
We strongly encourage commercial customers to provide us with meter reads to keep bills as accurate as possible and only pay for the energy currently being used. If a business makes changes to opening hours, reduces/increases capacity or temporarily closes, we will work with the customer to change their Direct Debit so it is more in line with current usage.
Other ways customers can save money is through energy efficiency measures, NISEP grants for installing energy saving technology like LED lighting and intelligent heating controls, as well as changing meters onto a different tariff that may be more suitable to the type of business. Please get in contact to discuss.
