Power NI is proud to announce that the Northern Community Leisure Trust is the latest winner of its Brighter Communities funding. The Trust will receive £1,000 to launch ‘Move Together Teen Health and Fitness’, a new health and fitness programme for young people aged 12–15.
The Northern Community Leisure Trust is a not-for-profit organisation that delivers sport, leisure, culture, and arts services across North Down. With this funding, they’ll run an eight-week programme giving teenagers free access to health workshops and fun, structured physical activity sessions.
Delivered in partnership with the North Down Community Network, the programme aims to build fitness, improve mental wellbeing, and grow confidence. It will also help break down barriers that often stop young people from taking part in sport and leisure.
Each week, participants will take part in a short health workshop covering topics such as body image, healthy lifestyle choices, and mental wellbeing. This will be followed by a group activity session, designed to make exercise fun and enjoyable. Thanks to the funding, every participant will also receive a free youth membership for the full eight weeks, helping to ease financial pressure on families.
The project has been designed to address real challenges facing young people, including anxiety, obesity, poor diet, and the rise in vaping. It offers a safe, supportive space where teenagers can build positive, lifelong habits.
One young participant said:
"I can’t wait to learn about strength and actually have my own gym membership! It’s going to be amazing to see what I can achieve."
Will Carson, Sports Development and Health Manager at Northern Community Leisure Trust, added:
"Working with the local community, especially young people, is hugely important to us. Move Together gives young people the chance to exercise together, learn about healthy living, and build confidence in a safe environment. We want to make healthy habits fun and accessible for everyone."
Ashleigh O’Neill, Senior Marketing and Communications Executive at Power NI, said:
"Our Brighter Communities initiative is all about supporting projects that make a real difference. This programme will give young people the tools to feel healthier, happier, and more confident at a crucial stage in their lives. We’re proud to support it."
