A Derry-Londonderry-based charity that works with children and young people who have experienced trauma in a family setting has received a four-figure donation from Power NI.

The fresh support to Foyle Child Contact Centre, from Northern Ireland’s leading energy provider, is being used to update existing resources and help replace old play equipment, ensuring it can continue to further develop and enhance its child-centred environment.

A total of one thousand pounds has been donated to Foyle Child Contact Centre as part of Power NI’s long-established – and hugely successful – Brighter Communities initiative.

Foyle Child Contact Centre has been operating for over 20 years and throughout this time has provided supported contact for children and young people aged 0–18 years. Its work helps them to re-establish relationships with absent parents or distant family members.

Based in the city’s Diamond area, the charity also works with those families affected by challenging circumstances, including substance abuse, mental health difficulties, and domestic violence, while always prioritising the well-being of the child or young person.

Ashleigh O’Neill – the Senior Marketing and Communications Executive at Power NI – said: “At Power NI, we believe in supporting organisations that make a real difference in their local communities.

“Foyle Child Contact Centre provides an essential service for children and young people, and we are delighted that our Brighter Communities funding will help improve the welcoming, supportive environment they work so hard to create.”

By offering a diverse range of play activities for children and young people who come to its premises, Foyle Child Contact Centre can create a safe space where they are able to express themselves freely, feel supported, and rebuild all-important family connections.

Liz McCorkell – Coordinator at Foyle Child Contact Centre – warmly welcomed the support from Power NI, saying: “Foyle Child Contact Centre are so delighted to be a beneficiary of the Brighter Communities funding.

“The grant from Power NI will help us to enhance our rich play environment for the children and young people who use our service as a result of family breakdown.”
