Power NI is once again honoured to sponsor the Caring Spirit Award at the Spirit of NI Awards, celebrating those whose selfless compassion uplifts individuals and communities. Now in our eighth consecutive year supporting this award, we remain inspired by the quiet heroes who bring comfort, dignity, and kindness where it’s needed most.

That’s why we’re proud to celebrate Sheila McGivern, this year’s Caring Spirit Award winner at the Spirit of NI Awards. For 35 years, Sheila has been a source of calm, comfort and quiet strength at the Southern Area Hospice in Newry.

As the first person many families meet when they walk through the hospice doors, Sheila offers more than just a warm welcome as she brings empathy, compassion and a steady presence when it’s needed most.

Over the decades, Sheila has become part of the fabric of the hospice, offering care to thousands of people during some of their hardest days. Her impact is deeply felt, and her dedication speaks volumes.

Our CSR Manager, Gwyneth Compston, who presented the award, shared: “At Power NI, we’ve been a proud part of Northern Ireland’s communities for over 90 years, providing energy and support to homes, businesses and community organisations. We are delighted to be able to sponsor the Caring Spirit award for the eighth year in a row, celebrating the incredible individuals who go above and beyond to care for others. Their dedication and kindness continue to inspire us, and we are honoured to recognise those making a real difference in the lives of others across Northern Ireland.”

Sheila McGivern’s unwavering compassion reflects the values we hold dear here in Northern Ireland, where caring for one another is not just valued, but celebrated. Power NI is privileged to play a part in recognising such remarkable people.
