Power NI supports launch of Consumer Energy Charters for winter 2026/27

Power NI has joined other electricity and gas suppliers across Northern Ireland in supporting the Utility Regulator's Consumer Energy Charters for winter 2026/27..

The Domestic Consumer Energy Charter has been launched for a fifth year and the Small Business Energy Charter for a third year. The voluntary Charters set out a range of additional commitments and support measures designed to help households and small businesses during the winter months.

This year's Small Business Energy Charter includes new guidance to help businesses compare published energy tariffs, understand how to work with energy brokers and Third Party Intermediaries, access help with energy debt, and know where to seek support if a complaint remains unresolved. These measures sit alongside the existing commitments made by participating suppliers to support customers experiencing financial difficulties.

For domestic customers, the Charter includes a range of additional protections for households struggling with energy costs, including support for those experiencing payment difficulties or debt and customers using prepayment meters. Suppliers have also committed to contributing to charitable hardship funds and signposting customers to independent support services where appropriate.

The Charters also highlight the protections and support available throughout the year. These include tailored repayment plans based on individual circumstances, practical energy efficiency advice and access to additional support through customer care registers for eligible customers.

The Consumer Energy Charters have been developed collaboratively by the Utility Regulator, energy suppliers and the Consumer Council for Northern Ireland, with support from the Department for Communities, the Department for the Economy, Advice NI and Make the Call.

The Utility Regulator is encouraging any household or small business concerned about paying their electricity or gas bills to contact their supplier as early as possible to discuss the help and support that may be available.
The commitments under the Consumer Energy Charters will be in place from 1 November 2026 to 31 March 2027.

At Power NI, we understand that winter can be a challenging time for many households and businesses. Customers who are worried about paying their bill or who need extra support are encouraged to get in touch with us as early as possible so we can discuss the options available.
