To mark Random Acts of Kindness Day, Power NI has donated £1,000 to Lurgan’s Palms Day Centre to support a series of professional music sessions for senior members.

The sessions will be led by a professional music instructor and are designed to give participants the opportunity to enjoy music in a fun and social way with their family and friends.

Palms Day Centre provides a warm, supportive environment for older people living with dementia and other conditions. This new initiative aims to create meaningful moments of connection while highlighting the positive – and lasting – impact small act of kindness can have within the community.

Nadine Elliott, Manager of the Jethro Centre where Palms Day Centre operates, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Power NI’s Brighter Communities Fund for supporting Palms.

“This funding will allow us to develop music sessions for people living with early-onset dementia, creating moments of joy, connection, and stimulation for those who attend. Support like this makes a real difference to the people we work with, helping to lift mood, spark memories, and create meaningful moments together.”

Research shows that music therapy can improve memory, support speech and language, reduce stress, and boost overall wellbeing by encouraging creativity and happiness – benefits Power NI is helping to deliver through its Brighter Communities initiative.

Ashleigh O’Neill, Senior Marketing and Communications Executive at Power NI, added: “It is inspiring to see the work being done at Palms Day Centre, and we are proud to support them through our Brighter Communities Fund. This contribution will help them continue offering activities that bring joy, creativity, and comfort to their participants.”

Power NI’s Brighter Communities scheme supports local groups and organisations that energise communities across Northern Ireland. Since 2018, over £100,000 has been awarded to help community projects like this continue to make a difference.
