About Power NI

Northern Ireland's leading energy company

We are Northern Ireland’s leading, local energy company with over 80 years experience of supplying customers in this part of the world. We believe that this local knowledge and experience gives us a unique advantage into understanding what our customers need from their energy supplier.

We supply around 600,000 homes, farms and businesses* and customers recently voted us the  ‘number one electricity supplier in Northern Ireland**.

Being voted the best by those who matter most, our customers, is something that we are extremely proud of.

Heritage in the energy market

After nearly 15 years of competition, Power NI continues to be Northern Ireland’s number one electricity supplier. We fulfil around 70% of the domestic market’s electricity needs and 49% of the commercial market. Not only that, but we are delighted to have welcomed back more than 16,000 customers who have switched back to us from other suppliers – it seems the grass isn’t always greener!

Power NI is built around delivering great value for money and excellent customer service. . You might be surprised to hear that some people think energy can be a boring business! But it’s one of life’s essentials, and we love what we do. By helping our customers, we hope to make their lives a little easier.

Excellent customer service

Excellent customer service is in our DNA - and it shows.  We have friendly staff in Antrim, Belfast and Omagh and answer most of our calls within 20 seconds, so with us you won’t be left hanging on the line, or be passed from pillar to post.  Our DNA also shows that we have the ‘low complaints’ gene!  For the third year running, we’ve been recognised by the Consumer Council as having the lowest level of customer complaints of any local supplier.

We serve more than 560,000 home customers, yet the number of official complaints upheld by the Consumer Council against us in a whole year can be counted on two hands…You don’t even need your toes to keep count!

Value electricity provision

We are confident in what we offer and we believe in freedom of choice.  Unlike other suppliers, Power NI’s prices for homes, small businesses and farms are agreed with the Utility Regulator, so our customers can be sure that they will always pay a fair price.  We also believe in offering discounts to every single one of our customers, year in, year out.  We know that every customer is different; that’s why offer a range of quick and easy ways to pay..

Community work

What underpins all of this is our commitment to the local community. We support many organisations each year, including charitable, sporting, business and science organisations, plus environmental and community groups. We’re passionate about contributing to a better community for us all.

This year so far (2015) we have given more than £34,000 to The Prince’s Trust, which helps to change the lives of underprivileged young people. We have also supported sporting organisations and events including soccer, rugby, GAA and table tennis. Where there’s a ball, there is a way!

We support ‘Elements’ a science-based education exhibition at the Ulster Museum Stranmillis, which is free to visit. Our environmental support spans everything from helping the Woodland Trust plant trees to helping fund local communities in their ‘Quest’ to install community renewables.

We have also worked for many years with Age NI and other local charities aimed at supporting older people. Age NI works to improve the lives of older people in Northern Ireland. We are delighted to be working very closely with Age NI to promote the services and support we have to offer our older customers.

Our staff even gets involved! Through our ‘Helping Hands’ scheme, staff can give financial support to local groups we’re involved with. Recent support includes a staff member helping to raise more than £6,000 for Marie Curie by supporting a fundraising night. Other staff members’ ‘Helping Hand’ support helped to buy saddles to facilitate disabled riders enjoy their horse riding and toy cars for toddlers to enjoy at their local nursery.

Corporate responsibility

At our core, we are committed to integrating corporate responsibility into the way we do business. We’re delighted to say that we were recently awarded the only Corporate Responsibility (CR) award in Northern Ireland. ‘CORE’, the standard for responsible business, is awarded by Business in the Community and was recently awarded to our Group.

We hope this gives you a sense of who we are. With an unrivalled history and heritage of serving local customers, we’re proud to be Northern Ireland’s leading, local energy supplier. We promise to continue putting all our energy into providing excellent service and value.
