Tech Must-Haves
It’s hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. We’ve been delighted to kick off our ‘Here to Help’ winter content series, and really hope that the hacks we’ve been sharing across our website and Instagram page have been useful around your home. This week’s instalment is all about tech. We’re looking at the various smart gadgets that will save you time and energy when it comes to household appliances. Keep an eye out for their latest videos, but for now, let’s talk tech...
- Smart Home Hub
First up, the smart home hub. Most of the big tech companies (Amazon, Google, Apple) have a version of this nifty device on the market, and they’re well worth a purchase. Once your hub’s up and running, you’ll have instant voice-activated access to all sorts of information - like the weather, opening times of your local shop, what ingredients you need for a lasagne... But they offer so much more, too! If your lights and appliances are smart, you can control them all from this one hub, automating them to only come on when required and saving you money as a result. - Smart Plugs
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly way to make your home a little more energy-efficient, pick up a few smart plugs. These handy little guys will turn your non-smart appliance – a lamp, for example, into one that can be switched on and off remotely through an app on your phone. There are endless ways you can use a smart plug, hitting a button when you’re a few minutes from home to switch on the kettle is our favourite! - Electric Blanket
Electric blankets have come a long way since your gran might have had one years ago. Newer models are split into four panels, so bed partners can choose their own settings. It’s not recommended that they’re left on all night, but switching on your electric blanket just before bed will result in the upmost cosiness. Plus, they’re more cost-efficient than heating the whole room. - Heated Clothes Airer
Do you find yourself regularly using the tumble dryer? Though it’s great if you’re stuck for clean clothes, this appliance is one of the bigger consumers of energy in the home. Luckily, there are smarter options available, like a heated clothes dryer. Just like a regular clothes horse, it plugs in and the arms heat up to dry your clothes quickly and efficiently. Not only is this option a whole lot cheaper, it’s also way gentler on your clothes, as they’re not getting tossed around in a drum for hours.
