Players at Bangor Rugby Minis sported an eye-catching new look at one of the largest youth rugby festivals of its kind in the UK and Ireland thanks to the support of Power NI.
Northern Ireland’s leading energy provider awarded the team £1,200 through its Helping Hands initiative to purchase new kit for the Leicester Tigers Challenge event in England – a tournament that attracts 350-plus teams and an incredible twelve thousand people.
Power NI employees from the Customer Relations Department nominated the squad to receive funding as one of them has a son playing at the club.
A total of two squads made the trip across the Irish Sea to the competition, with both sets of players enjoying tremendous success, and one going on to win their respective group.
“I was delighted that Power NI supported the Primary Seven Bangor Rugby Minis,” said Pauline. “This team has developed tremendously through the Mini Club over the years and have gone unbeaten across the island of Ireland this season – quite an achievement. Understandably, they were full of confidence going into the Leicester Tigers Challenge.
“As both a parent and a Power NI employee, it was incredibly rewarding to see the team take to the field in their new kit at such a high-profile tournament. The players have worked so hard during the year and have shown tremendous commitment, teamwork and determination. Seeing the squads play so well and for one of them to win their group was ajust reward for all their efforts.
“I’m delighted that Power NI’s Helping Hands initiative was able to support the team and help create what will be a very special memory for players and their families,” she added.
To date, Power NI’s Helping Hands has donated tens of thousands of pounds to local community groups across Northern Ireland, helping local organisations continue the vital work they do. A Power NI spokesperson said: “Power NI is proud to support Bangor Rugby Minis and would like to congratulate the squad on a hugely successful season.”
