A wind farm in County Fermanagh has been featured as part of a Power NI campaign that explores the world of renewable energy and biodiversity through children’s eyes.
The latest instalment of the Green Guardians campaign – an initiative run by Power NI, Northern Ireland’s largest energy supplier – explores Teiges Wind Farm in Co Fermanagh.
The campaign is intended to promote learning and understanding about energy, the environment and how people’s actions can have an impact on the environment in both in the short- and longer-term.
In the new video, local Green Guardians Evie Rose and Anna meet Niall, Site Manager at Teiges Wind Farm, to discover how wind energy is generated and why renewable power is so essential for Northern Ireland’s future. Owned by Energia Group, parent company of Power NI, the five-turbine site can produce 2.5 megawatts of clean electricity, to help power local homes while reducing carbon emissions.
During their visit, Evie Rose and Anna learn what it is like to work on an operational wind farm, exploring how wind can be transformed into electricity, and how engineers keep turbines running safely and efficiently. They also chat with Niall about the wider impact of wind farms, not just for energy production, but for helping with climate change and the importance of protecting biodiversity.
Biodiversity is a key focus at Teiges, and the Green Guardians see firsthand how the team helps care for local wildlife. This includes protecting the Marsh Fritillary – a native butterfly species found in the area.
Lauren White, Senior Social Media and Campaigns Executive at Power NI, said: “We are delighted to bring our Green Guardians to Teiges Wind Farm and showcase the incredible work happening right here in Fermanagh.
“Renewable energy is vital for a greener future, and by helping children understand how wind power works and why protecting biodiversity matters, we hope to inspire the next generation of environmental champions,” added Lauren.
This latest video builds on Power NI’s wider Green Guardians initiative; it was launched to encourage families and young people across the province to live more sustainably through learning in a fun and accessible way.
