Staff and pupils at a primary school in Carryduff are enjoying a more fun and interactive learning experience thanks to a donation from Northern Ireland’s leading energy provider.
A total of £600 has been awarded to St Joseph’s Primary School by Power NI through its long-standing Helping Hands charitable initiative, with the funding used to purchase a comprehensive selection of new toys and resources.
St Joseph’s Primary School has been at the heart of the local community for decades, providing education for children from early years right through to Primary Seven while supporting academic, personal and spiritual development.
With a strong emphasis on creating a supportive and inclusive environment, staff at St Joseph’s Primary School help pupils develop the skills, confidence and values that are needed for the next stage of their education.
Primary One teacher, Nicola Henderson, said: “These new resources will help us further develop our play-based learning environment and support the children in building their imagination, social skills, collaboration and so many more developmental life skills.”
St Joseph’s Primary School was nominated for the Helping Hands donation by parents Claire McElroy and Tony McElroy – employees of Power NI and Energia Group – whose daughter attends the school.
Speaking about the donation and the difference it will make to the school and its pupils, Claire said: “Throughout the year, we have seen first-hand the commitment and creativity the staff bring each day to create a positive and supportive environment for the children.
“We are delighted to support new resources for the Primary One class that will inspire learning through play. We know this contribution from Power NI will make a meaningful – and lasting – difference to the school community.”
To date, Power NI’s Helping Hands programme has donated tens of thousands of pounds to community groups across Northern Ireland, helping local organisations continue the vital work they do.
