Power NI, Northern Ireland’s leading energy supplier, recently donated £250 to Bradley Manor Care Home based in North Belfast. The funding was used to purchase sensory lights, a welcome addition to their beautiful sensory garden.
The donation is part of Power NI’s ‘Helping Hands’ staff sponsorship scheme. The ‘Helping Hands’ initiative encourages employees to nominate local organisations and groups who they have relationships with throughout their communities. Power NI employee Pat McGowan recommended that the care home receive the funding as her mother, Emily Kelly, has been a resident there since October 2016.
Pat McGowan, Power NI employee said: “I have been visiting my mum here for the past year now and am so thankful for the help and support that the care home provides for her and my family. She loves to spend time out in the garden and it’s great that I was able to add to this through the ‘Helping Hands’ scheme that we have at Power NI.” Bradley Manor, located on the Crumlin Road in North Belfast is a residential care home which provides nursing care for up to 82 people. The home cares for those living with dementia and provides residents the opportunity to engage in a range of activities such as, bingo, armchair exercise, arts and crafts, gardening and so much more. The care home encourages interaction in a timetable of available activities as it helps both the residents and their family and friends.
With the help of Power NI’s staff sponsorship scheme, the funds allowed the care home to purchase a beautiful sensory garden feature. The relaxing sounds of the waterfall and accompanying LED lights allows for residents to enjoy moments of tranquillity and peace in the beautiful surroundings of the sensory garden that the care home staff have created. Gillian Masson, Activity Co-Ordinator at Bradley Manor said: “We are so thankful to Power NI for this kind donation, the residents at Bradley Manor love to spend time in the garden. Adding this beautiful water feature will only encourage them to spend more time outdoors in the fresh air."
