Malone Tornadoes: A trip to IMART 2025

As part of the ‘Rugby For All’ initiative with the IRFU, Power NI, part of Energia Group, was a proud sponsor of the Malone Tornadoes throughout their journey to the International Mixed Ability Rugby Tournament (IMART) 2025 - a celebration of Mixed Ability Rugby on the global stage.

With a touring party of 63, the group arrived home a number of weeks ago, tired but uplifted, after a challenging and inspiring eight-day tournament.

The tournament was played under gruelling conditions, with unseasonably hot conditions in Pamplona, Spain. Yet, true to the Tornadoes’ spirit, the squad faced every test with determination, resilience, and an unwavering sense of camaraderie. The players’ ‘can-do’ attitude was evident in every match, a clear reflection of the values and culture the club continues to build and promote.

The tour was filled with moments of laughter, teamwork, and heartfelt connections that brought everyone closer together. The strength of support within the team was truly outstanding.

Thanks to the support from sponsors such as Power NI, the team were also able to benefit from the expertise of some incredible individuals such as Lisa Parry of LP Physiotherapy & Pilates (Lisburn Road, Belfast) and Ulster Rugby Inclusion Officer, Shel Laffin.

On the field, Ulster Rugby’s Harry Sheridan was a steadying presence, offering professional insight, hydration support, and wise words during play. A particularly stand-out moment came when Harry played alongside his father and brother in a match against Alcobendas RFC — a perfect example of what Mixed Ability Rugby is all about.

The Tornadoes are now enjoying a well-earned rest after a long and successful season. As the club reflects on this milestone trip, the focus turns to the future — recharging, rethinking, and returning stronger.

With plans to welcome new players, develop new opportunities, and continue building a positive, inclusive culture, the Tornadoes remain committed to ensuring rugby is a game for everyone.

At the heart of the club lies a shared belief: that through teamwork, community, and support from partners like Power NI, anything is possible — and every player, no matter their ability, has a place on the pitch.

Power NI’s continued commitment to inclusive rugby reinforces the importance of providing opportunities for everyone, regardless of ability, to be part of the game. The Malone Tornadoes’ success and unity on this tour are a testament to the power of community partnerships and the belief that rugby truly is a sport for all.
