Celebrating Excellence: The 2025/26 Energia AIL Awards Honour the Best of Irish Club Rugby
The 2025/26 Energia All Ireland League season reached its celebratory finale as players, coaches, referees, and volunteers from across the country gathered for the annual Energia AIL Awards Night. Hosted at Bective Rangers’ clubhouse, the evening recognised the standout performers who embodied the skill, passion, and community spirit that define club rugby in Ireland.
Ireland Men’s National Team Defence Coach Simon Easterby was on hand to present the awards, joined by IRFU President John O’Driscoll and Energia Managing Director Gary Ryan, who each highlighted the league’s growing competitiveness and the vital role of community clubs nationwide.
Across the Women’s Division and Men’s Divisions 1A through 2C, this year’s winners demonstrated exceptional consistency and leadership. Their performances not only elevated their clubs but also showcased the depth of talent flourishing throughout the Energia AIL.
2025/26 Energia AIL Award Winners
Women’s Division
Women’s Player of the Year — Chloe Pearse (UL Bohemian RFC) A dominant force all season, Pearse’s impact at both set piece and open play made her a standout choice.
Women’s Coach of the Year — Sarah Quin (UL Bohemian RFC) Quin’s leadership guided UL Bohemian to another formidable campaign, reinforcing the club’s status as a powerhouse in the women’s game.
Men’s Divisions
Division 1A Player of the Year — Mick O’Gara (St. Mary’s College RFC) O’Gara’s consistency and game management were central to St. Mary’s outstanding season.
Division 1B Player of the Year — Eoin Deegan (Old Wesley RFC) Deegan’s dynamic performances made him a standout in a fiercely competitive division.
Division 2A Player of the Year — Shane Mallon (MU Barnhall RFC) Mallon’s attacking flair and reliability were key to MU Barnhall’s campaign.
Division 2B Player of the Year — Dylan Keane (Galwegians RFC) Keane’s influence across the pitch earned him deserved recognition.
Division 2C Player of the Year — Joey O’Connor (Clonmel RFC) O’Connor’s standout season included a flawless kicking display in the Division 2C final, helping Clonmel secure the title.
Men’s Divisions Coach of the Year — Mark McHugh (St. Mary’s College RFC) McHugh’s leadership has been instrumental in St. Mary’s rise and their exceptional 2025/26 campaign.
Refereeing & Community Awards
Referee of the Season — Pádraic Reidy Recognised for excellence, consistency, and professionalism throughout the season.
Community Hero Award — Emmett Sheridan (Bective Rangers FC) Sheridan’s dedication exemplifies the volunteer spirit that sustains club rugby across Ireland.
Energia ‘Possibilities’ Award — Ennis RFC Celebrated for their inspiring debut season in the Women’s Division following promotion, Ennis RFC continue to embody growth, ambition, and community impact.
Speaking at the ceremony, Energia Managing Director Gary Ryan praised the winners’ “commitment, resilience and talent,” noting that the league continues to grow in quality and competitiveness each year. IRFU President John O’Driscoll echoed this sentiment, emphasising that club rugby remains the foundation of the sport in Ireland.
