Newcastle Yacht Club has just completed the second stage of Quest bringing them one step closer to the £10,000 reward.
The second stage of this competition saw the group successfully complete 100 online Home Energy Checks through the Power NI website. This check produced a personalised energy report showing all Quest participants how they can become more energy efficient in their home while also saving money. They are now working on step three were they will improve the insulation of homes in their community by sourcing out 25 eligible referrals for the free insulation scheme. This criteria based free insulation package from Power NI which is funded by the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme is open to all homeowners and private renters and provides a full package of loft insulation (up to 300mm), cavity wall insulation, a hot water tank jacket (if applicable) and four energy saving light bulbs. Leslie Mackie from Newcastle Yacht Club said; ‘’We are very excited to be moving on to the next stage of Quest. The whole community has been very supportive, helping us through this competition and we know with their continued support we will be able to make a great difference for everyone involved.’’ Their mentor, Wilma Stewart added; ‘’Newcastle Yacht Club worked extremely hard to complete step 2 of Quest. It was very encouraging to see the wider community supporting them and with that support they will do very well in this competition.’’ Newcastle Yacht Club must source 25 referrals for the NISEP free insulation scheme before they can move on to the fourth stage of Quest.
