Over 50 young people in the greater Belfast region will benefit from a Lyric Theatre creative learning programme thanks to Power NI funding support.
The KIC (Kids in Control) All-Ability Physical Theatre programme brings together young people, both disabled and able-bodied, who work together under the creative leadership of Lyric Theatre mentors and facilitators and present a showcase finale performance at the Lyric’s Naughton Studio.
Backing from energy company Power NI is enabling the Lyric team to further extend and develop the artistic programme rolling out an additional 14 workshops at Glenveagh Special School in South Belfast and West Belfast’s Upper Springfield area. This is on top of 28 planned sessions at both the Lyric Theatre and Bloomfield Collegiate school in East Belfast.
At the Lyric Theatre during the Autumn and Spring terms 15 young people who experience a range of disabilities, will learn about and train in all aspects of performance art and theatre production. Lead facilitators will be supported by fully trained peer leaders including 15 volunteers from Bloomfield Collegiate.
