Castlewellan Futures another step closer to £10,000 Quest fund

Monday, July 08, 2013

Castlewellan Futures has completed the second stage of Quest, making them one step closing to winning the £10,000 reward for their community.  They are now on to the third stage of the competition which will see them improve the insulation of homes in their area by sourcing out 25 eligible referrals for the free insulation scheme. This criteria based free insulation package from Power NI which is funded by the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme is open to all homeowners and private renters and provides a full package of loft insulation (up to 300mm), cavity wall insulation, a hot water tank jacket (if applicable) and four energy saving light bulbs. To get here they had to hold a community meeting with their power NI mentor and had to complete 100 online Home Energy Checks through the Power NI website.  Michael Donnelly from Castlewellan Futures said; ‘’It was great news to hear we hit 100 Home Energy Checks and are ready to move onto step 3.  We are very determined to succeed in this competition and will work very hard to be the first to complete this stage.’’ Their mentor, Wilma Stewart added; Even though this competition is still in the early stages, Castlewellan Futures have already made a big difference to their community and this will continue the further they get in this challenge.  They should be very proud of the work they have put in so far.’’ Castlewellan Futures must now source 25 referrals for the NISEP free insulation scheme before they can move on to the fourth stage of Quest.
