Swifts score new talent with Power NI
Power NI recently donated £250 and 60 new bibs to West Belfast’s St James’ Swifts FC for their Juvenile recruitment day. The funding also provided all young players in attendance with medals to celebrate achievements, and refreshments during Belfast’s summer scorcher.
The money came from Power NI’s staff sponsorship scheme ‘Helping Hands’ which gives its employees the opportunity to nominate local organisations that they are involved with to receive up to £250 in funding.
Power NI employee, Kathy Smyth, nominated the club to receive the donation as she has been a supporter of the West Belfast team for many years and has seen members of her family achieve great success as young footballers.
Kathy commented, “I nominated St James Swifts because of their excellent work in West Belfast with people of all ages and abilities, which my family have been part of over the years. It’s so great to be able to say thank you for the club’s hard work with funding from Power NI.”
St James Swifts F.C is a community football club based in the St James Area of West Belfast, Ballymena and provincial Intermediate Premier League. The recruitment day was a great success, with male and female players aged 4 to 14 from throughout the area turning out to enjoy drills, and fun games in the sun.
Club representative, Damien Lindsay, said, “This funding allows us to ensure St James Swifts can continue to allow local kids to not only develop their football talent, but keep healthy, make friends and develop personally. As we’re one of the largest clubs in West Belfast, the funding and donation of bibs will really go a long way. Thanks Power NI!”
