Things To Do at Culture Night Belfast
When it comes to events in September, they’ve become synonymous with the words ‘electric’, ‘eclectic’ and ‘illuminating’!
So it’s only fitting that we are proud sponsor of Culture Night 2018, this Friday 21st September.
Over 250 events of all shapes and sizes, creeds and classes will come together under the umbrella of celebrating culture in all its forms. And it’s all free!
To mark 10 glorious years of Culture Night shining a spotlight or our wonderful capital city, we’ve picked out a selection of our favourite events not to be missed on the night!
And there’s one particular highlight:
#LightingUpGenerations is a spectacular light show, lighting up St. Anne’s Cathedral – like never before! Through the art of projection mapping you’ll see, for free, three beautiful animations depicting this year’s themes of love, community and togetherness. All powered by us.

1. WORLD STAGE
Belfast City Hall
2pm - 8pm
Welcome to a world of beautiful, colourful culture!
The party celebrations get into full swing at the iconic City Hall with a multi-cultural medley featuring African, Caribbean and other ethnic minority performers showcasing fashion and food, drumming workshops and dance.
It’s also United Nations World Peace Day. Perfect!
2. FOLK TOWN LIVE MUSIC
Bank Square
From 6pm
It’s music and more for the soul
Fit to funk? If you love Aretha and Stevie Wonder, you’ll love Grooveline, put together by Chic’s Ralph Rolle, followed by the unique upbeat sounds of The Lotties. Next up is Daydream-nation bringing Rock & Roll bang up to date.
All wrapped with the Electric Octopus! Because anything goes!
3. BELFAST HEALTH TRUST STAFF CHOIR & ORCHESTRA
Rosemary Street Church
8.30pm - 9.30pm
Together for the first time!
The orchestra and choir combine to bring a healthy dose of light, popular music and well-known film scores to the masses. Join the midwives and managers, scientists and surgeons, nurses and therapists in a sing-along.
You’ll feel all the better for it.
4. CHAPEL OF LOVE
Bullitt Hotel, Church Lane

Bite the ‘Bullit’ and get hitched!
Belfast goes all ‘Las Vegas’ and formally invites you to tie the knot ‘shotgun’ style (Geddit?). With live music, drinks, DJs and a whole lotta dancing, it’s sure to be pure fun in this American-inspired Chapel of Love.
Say ‘I do’ to a fab night.
5. THE BIG FISH DANCE STAGE

Dance the night away – international style!
Ever wanted to tackle the Argentine Tango? Now’s your chance to have a go at this daringly difficult dance. Or have fun with Flamenco and the finest Flamenco Fino performers. Or if French Dance is more your thing, say ‘Oui’.

6. MEDIEVAL SWORDSMANSHIP

Medieval Combat Group and Historical Fencing NI let battle commence amidst the cobbles of Cotton Court showcasing Historical European Martial Arts. Learn the techniques of medieval masters and see this age-old art in action.
A fascinating insight into swordsmanship!
7. CIRCUS BITES CABARET

Roll up! Roll up!
Belfast Circus School will be serving up fun and frolics for all. Join the Youth Circus, Adults Circus, those who have a go as a hobby and professional circus artists as they perform bite-size routines that leave you wanting more!

8. PRO WRESTLING ULSTER LIVE

Who will lift the CNB Title Belt?
There’s only one way to find out. Go ringside for a night of high energy, hard hitting, adrenaline-filled action. Suitable for all the family and as entertaining as it is technical and skillful, enjoy match after match until only one remains.

9. ‘Lighting Up Generations’ Show
Writers Square
Every half hour from 8pm – 10pm
It’s the highlight of the night!
Our ‘Lighting up Generations’ show of course! Catch it every half hour from 8pm -10pm. In between shows, you can listen to the soothing sounds of Belfast Community Gospel Choir bringing Joy in the City! Or get your skates on for the Belfast Roller Derby.

10. CULTURE BITES

All evening
Food stalls and pop-up shops, make sure you’re full on great food!
We’re talking specialist Fast Food, like gourmet Armagh-made hot dogs, delicious wood-fired pizzas, fancy snacks and the finest choices - if food’s your thing there’s a whole host of amazing street food along North Street.

Meet the team of Pintsized Productions, a unique and innovative company bringing Pintsized projects to alternative venues and showcasing talent through art, theatre and various collaborations, engaging with and inspiring audiences.
They’re also celebrating their 10th birthday – cake anyone?
