New normal, new season with Rebecca McKinney!
Rebecca McKinney makes waves every morning with Pete & Paulo on the Cool FM Breakfast Show. She is also one of Northern Ireland’s best loved stylists and fashion influencers. We’ve teamed up with her to find out her top trends for Autumn 2020!
Let’s face it, we’ve all been through a tough time this year and apart from pjs and loungewear, our wardrobes are probably feeling a little neglected! Power NI want to get you excited about the new season, so they have challenged me to pick 5 of my favourite Autumn trends, that I think will give us all a much needed lift over the next few months. If you’re anything like me, a new outfit can really brighten the mood, so here’s some fashion inspo from me to you!
It may be a stay-at-home Autumn, so let’s make it a stylish one with Power NI Perks^! I’m a lifelong Power NI customer and love that I can get more than just energy with them. Power NI Perks allows me to get discounts on almost 1000 brands – from my favourite supermarket to style galore! It’s totally exclusive to Power NI.
Collars & Cuffs
- The only place you need drama in your life is on your sleeve this season. Puffed, lacy, gathered, frilled – the bigger the better. Our high street is bursting with cute options of tops, cardigans and coats that satisfy our statement sleeve cravings. Always style with something more fitted to balance out the proportions. If you prefer a collar detail, this can be a lovely way of dressing up a simple top or jumper.

Lilac Love Affair
- This trend is going nowhere. All summer we fell in love with pastels, but lilac hues in particular were flooding our Instagram feeds with girly outfit inspo. Admittedly it’s an unusual colour for Autumn, but I’m glad this happy shade has hung around. Think lilac knitwear, purple cropped puffa coats and heather knitted dresses. Toughen up the trend with a leather jacket and biker boots.

Return of the Mac
I think everyone needs a classic mac coat in their wardrobe, but if you haven’t found your perfect match just yet, then this season could be for you! Rain or shine, let your mac work hard for you in the wardrobe. Style it over dresses, wear with jeans and trainers or throw it on heading to meetings to instantly chic up your look. Try the classic tan belted mac, go for a bright pink boucle version or maybe even brave the faux leather trench for the fashion forward of us!

Faux leather has become so much more accessible on the high street these days, so you can achieve the look without having to spend a fortune. I’d always recommend to my styling clients that we should all invest in a real leather jacket once in your life, but for more trend lead pieces, high street faux leather looks are great. Think leather trousers styled with chunky knitwear, belted leather t-shirt dresses worn with boots & tights or even coloured leather to soften the trend. Give it a try girl!

I’m a sucker for suits at any time of the year, but this Autumn, tailoring has become a key trend. When I talk about suits, I don’t just mean for Zoom meetings! These are mainly meant to be styled for dinner dates, drinks with the girls or dressed down with t-shirts and trainers. There is a suit for everyone this season; oversized, boyfriend cut, cropped jackets, wide legged or fitted and sexy. Tailoring is so versatile. Wear as a match, or spilt the pieces up and style a blazer with a great pair of mom jeans and chunk runners. Instant wardrobe update!
