Can I view my bill online?

Q: I received a reminder letter, but I've already paid.

If you’ve paid your bill in full or entered into a payment plan within the last seven days, the reminder letter may have been posted prior to your payment or your plan set up. If you’ve paid your bill by cheque this can take up to 14 days from the day you posted the cheque to be credited to your account. Please check the date on your letter. If the date on the letter is before the date you paid you don't need to do anything. You can also check the balance on your account by logging into your online account .

Q: My bill is higher than usual

If your bill is higher than you expected there are several reasons why this might be. Was your last bill estimated? It may have been a low estimate and this bill is ‘catching up’. Estimated readings are based on past billing history and are usually accurate. If you think an estimated bill is not accurate please contact us with your own readings. Are you comparing a winter bill to a summer bill? Energy bills are typically higher in winter than in summer months. Have your circumstances at home changed, for example a family member returning from University or perhaps the arrival of a new baby? This can increase the amount of electricity used around the home. Have you installed any new equipment or increased the use of existing appliances, such as a tumble drier or electric heater? Has there been a tariff increase since the last bill was issued? You would have received a letter informing you about this. Do you have a faulty appliance? Have you had an electrician check this? Q: If I receive an estimated bill how can I get an accurate one?

Contact us and provide us with your customer account number and an up-to-date reading. We’ll be happy to process your reading to produce a revised bill for you. Please try to provide us with an accurate reading as soon as possible after you receive your bill.

Q: I haven't received my bill

If you’re expecting a bill and haven’t received it contact us and we’ll look into this. Calls are recorded for quality assurance purposes. Power NI issues bill every 3 months however, if you’re expecting a bill and haven’t received it in this time frame please get in touch. Phone lines open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. If you’ve signed up for online billing , you'll receive an email notifying you when your latest bill is available. You can then view your bill by clicking the link on your email and logging in.

Q: How is my bill calculated?

Northern Ireland Electricity Networks (NIE Networks) read all electricity meters four times a year and send the meter readings for our customers to us. Remember, NIE Networks is a different organisation to Power NI. When we receive your meter reading we work out how many units of electricity you have used since the last time your meter was read and multiply this figure by the current unit rate for your tariff. Your tariff and current unit rate can be found on page 2 of your bill. We then deduct any discount (for example if you pay by Direct Debit) and add VAT. If you miss the meter reader, they’ll usually provide an information card explaining what you need to do. If we don’t receive a meter reading, we’ll estimate your bill based on your previous usage patterns. Find out how/if your bill is estimated

Q: How do I view my bills?

To view your bills on online account go to 'My Bills'. You can also view your bills from your billing dashboard and have the options to save and print these. It is also important to download the most up-to-date version of Adobe PDF.

Activating Online billing:
To activate an online account, you’ll need:

Your Power NI account number, and
A valid email address.

*Online billing customers with Monthly Direct Debit get 4% discount off the Power NI standard rate, up to £10 per quarter equivalent to £40 per year and will receive a further 2% off the Power NI standard rate, up to £5 per quarter equivalent to £20 per year. *Online billing customers with quarterly Direct Debit get 2.5% discount off the Power NI standard rate, up to £6.50 per quarter equivalent to £26 per year and will receive a further 2% off the Power NI standard rate, up to £5 per quarter equivalent to £20 per year. *Credit metered customers paying standard unit rate, will receive 2% discount off the Power NI standard rate, up to £5 per quarter equivalent to £20 per year, by activating an online account.
