Power NI tariff announcement

Power NI has today 01 November announced that a review of its residential unit price has resulted in a 4%* increase, effective 01 December 2024. This reflects increases in market operation and network related charges, meaning that customers on average will pay an additional 10 pence per day.

The tariff change has been approved by the Utility Regulator and applies to domestic customers only. Power NI is the only price-controlled electricity supplier in Northern Ireland, providing customers with the assurance that they are paying a fair price, as tariffs are adjusted through a regulatory formula with all costs approved by the Utility Regulator.

William Steele, Director of Power NI Customer Solutions, said:

“We work hard to keep our prices as low as possible.  However, wholesale prices remain high and significant increases in third party market operation and network related costs have regrettably necessitated a tariff increase.

“In these challenging times, we have held off changing prices for as long as possible and we have been able to keep our tariffs below the equivalent GB and RoI average.”

Customers can help reduce the impact of this tariff increase by ensuring they are on the best payment plan for their needs. This includes choosing options like paying by Direct Debit and registering for online billing which include extra discount.

William Steele continues:

“We value our customers, and we are continuing to work closely with our charity partners and other key stakeholders across our local communities to provide support to those in need. We have a range of support available from tariff advice to energy saving tips and account support, so if anyone is worried about paying bills, please contact us directly, we are here to help.”

Power NI also helps customers to save money through a range of discounted payment schemes and services. Bill paying customers can save up to £60 a year through online billing and monthly Direct Debit. Pay-as-you-go Keypad customers get uncapped discounts, as well as free electricity when topping up £50 or more using the free Power NI app or via the website. Power NI customers can top-up from the comfort of their own home, with our free app, online or by calling our automated 24/7 payment line on 03457 455 455. Details of all help can be found on our pricing page.

*4% increase is applicable to Power NI Home Energy customers; other preserved tariffs may vary. On average, customers will pay 10p more per day from 1 December 2024. This is calculated using the Power NI standard Home Energy rate and an average household usage of 3,200 units (kWh) per year.
