He’s a stalwart of breakfast radio as the host of Cool FM’s biggest morning show as well as being one of the most in demand DJ’s in the country. Pete Snodden is a dad of two daughters and lives in Bangor with his wife Julia.
Pete is the face of Power NI’s ‘Powering Together’ campaign that will donate £5 for every switch in the Bangor and Newtownards area until 13th Dec.
Pete talks to us about his 2020 and why Bangor and Ards community means so much to him:
2020 has been a year of such change and challenge. More than ever, my job has been a lifeline - not only for myself, but to our hundreds of thousands of listeners who have needed a friend during times of isolation. The Cool FM Breakfast Team worked from a mix of locations. I was in the studio in the morning but then home in the afternoons so I was glad to have an electricity supplier I could count on – for online meetings and for the kettle for the many coffees I drink during the day! I’ve been with Power NI for as long as I can remember and knowing I could rely on them when I was at home more was really comforting. Plus, I like that I can manage my energy from an app on my phone. Going paperless and being a direct debit customer gets me a 6% discount too – great for the environment and saving me money at the same time!
Since restrictions have changed and I’m back in the Cool FM building with the team which is at the foot of the town in Newtownards. I love to grab a coffee (and sometimes a bun…) at Haptik after the show. There are so many great local businesses that have great take out options like them. Getting outdoors with my children has also been key to ensuring we all feel good – we love to walk at Bangor Marina or in Ward Park. A walk paired with a coffee is a great combo! I’m really pleased that Power NI take such an interest in our communities – including donating £40,000 to groups and charities during the height of the pandemic.
Like many of us this year, I have worried about my mum more than ever. We are extremely close and being separated from her was hard. That’s why I’m glad Power NI has teamed up with Age NI. Their work is more needed than ever – our older people have been much more isolated and in need of some extra love and care. For every switch until 13th December in the Ards and Bangor area, £5 will go straight to Age NI to help them with their services like Check In & Chat to make sure our old community members have a listening ear during these strange times.
