Local companies develop partnership to provide alternative to oil and gas heating

Power NI, Northern Ireland’s leading energy provider has joined forces with Dimplex Renewables to offer an alternative and local home heating solution to oil and gas.

This joint venture has enabled the companies to offer customers the opportunity to switch to an air source heat pump, designed specifically for the local market. The heat pumps, many of which are manufactured in Newry, provide efficient heating and hot water for modern homes.

With over 70% of homes in Northern Ireland currently reliant on oil heating, Power NI is encouraged by the Government’s proposed plans to introduce a Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). It is hoped that the RHI will provide a financial incentive to encourage customers to consider forms of renewable energy for their homes and heat pumps will be included. With an announcement expected soon, Power NI is gearing up now to meet anticipated customer demand.

Announcing the new partnership, Gwyneth Compston from Power NI said, “We have teamed up with Dimplex Renewables because they are world leaders in energy efficient heating systems and by working together, we can provide a first class ‘one stop shop’ service for our customers. “Our air source heat pumps can offer a convenient form of home heating which is cost effective and reliable.

An air source heat pump takes heat from the outside air, and converts it to a higher temperature for us to use in our homes. It transfers the heat to your central heating system and your water and essentially works like a fridge in reverse. The inside of your fridge is cold because the heat has been removed from it and delivered to the back of the fridge which is hot.

These heat pumps can not only save households money in the long term, but by working together with Dimplex Renewables, we are able to provide our customers with a real alternative to oil and gas home heating.” said Gwyneth. In announcing the new relationship between the two companies, Jonathan Jennings, Commerical Manager of Dimplex Renewables said: “Dimplex Renewables manufacture heat pumps which have been designed locally to suit our climate.

Combining these unique features with Power NI’s reach and commitment to customer service, means that we are able to provide higher levels of efficiency and better all round standards for performance and service for customers.”

As well as offering an air source heat pump heating solution, Power NI can also offer boiler servicing, insulation, solar water heating and solar photovoltaics (solar PV).
