What if I miss the meter reader?

If your meter is located inside your property or behind closed gates, meter readers will require access from you. If you miss the meter reader, they will generally leave a card to let you know that they have called and how you can go about providing a reading. Northern Ireland Electricity Networks (NIE Networks) read meters on behalf of all electricity suppliers in Northern Ireland. 

Our Energy Online customers will get a notification when the meter read window is open. Customers can log in to Energy Online and submit a meter reading under the ‘My Account’ section, by selecting ‘Meter readings’ from the menu. 

If you are not an Energy Online customer, you can activate your account now or   you can submit your reading on the NIE Networks website. Submitting a meter read will help keep your bill accurate. Even if you submit your own read, an NIE Networks meter reader will still need access to your meter once a quarter. As NIE Networks own the meter, they need to carry out a safety check and make sure it is working correctly. 

Please note: On Energy Online, only meter readings submitted when your meter reading window is open will be used to produce your next bill. When your meter reading window is closed, you can estimate your next bill, however this reading will be used for your guidance only and will not be used for your next bill.
